Description of duties: The successful candidate for this full-time position will work on the supervisor’s research projects, with some of their work time allotted for their own research agenda. The supervisor’s projects are in the areas of immigration and demography. This position requires collaboration with the supervisor on the management and analysis of quantitative data sets, and with the supervisor on initiating, writing, and revising articles for submission to peer-reviewed journals, and communicating the results of the research to broader academic and non-academic audiences. The position requires living and working in Toronto and physical presence on campus at the University of Toronto. There will be regular meetings with the supervisor and potentially with other faculty members in the Department of Sociology at the University of Toronto.
The successful applicant will also have teaching opportunities within the Department of Sociology at the University of Toronto.
Salary: $65,000 CAD, plus benefits as stipulated by the terms of the CUPE 3902 Unit 5 Collective Agreement
Required qualifications: Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in Sociology or a closely related field within the last five years, and not later than the start date of the post-doctoral fellowship. This position requires expertise in statistical methods for social sciences and facility with Stata and one other statistical package from SPSS, SAS or R. The candidate must have expertise in the sociological study of immigration and/or demography as demonstrated in their dissertation and/or published academic work. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, detail-oriented, responsible, team oriented, and creative, with excellent interpersonal, written communication, and organizational skills.

The normal hours of work are 40 hours per week for a full-time postdoctoral fellow (pro-rated for those holding a partial appointment) recognizing that the needs of the employee’s research and training and the needs of the supervisor’s research program may require flexibility in the performance of the employee’s duties and hours of work.
Employment as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto is covered by the terms of the
CUPE 3902 Unit 5 Collective Agreement.
